Hi all,

About a week a go I noticed a strange ticking noise from the car from about 2k to 3k (cant hear it after that because the engine noise itself drowns it out.)
With the fromt windows down you can hear it more but you can also hear it from inside with the windows up.
It happens when the engine is warm and after any amount of miles.

I thought it might be the gearbox but when cruising at 30 in neutral and I dial up 2-3k revs you can hear a ticking noise definately from the engine area. It does not increase in noise or speed as the revs increase?

Any thoughts?

Fluids are good, throttle response seems good, it is not the K&N as I have reseated it and it is not vibrating against the ECU. Happens with A/C on or off.

Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Sounds like the tappets, Pretty normal to be honest my ST is a 08 with 5k on and the tappets are quite loud.

I think you may find that it's actually the injectors that are making the ticking noise.

This is a known issue on the and some owners have simply covered them in heat resistent sound proofing, no harm and job done.

Many thanks for the replies, it has put my mind at ease.
Its a strange one as I have had the car 4 months and it has only just started making the noise a few weeks ago. Not getting any worse though.

i think my car makes that noise also , im going to double check tho ,mines is a 08 plate also ,

i will check this out tom now

Was out driving yesterday and the noise was pretty loud ..... has always done it so not worried but it does make my engine sound like its starting to fall to bits!!
