A mate of mine bought a fiesta st 55 reg with a smashed front end, it took hom 3 weeks to repair, nothing major bumper, bonnet lights front panel, rads and wings. Car started first time and actually drives like mine, good job i must say but there are a few issues i wondred if anyone can hlp him with?
1) When the lights are on they flicker, dash board, head lights interior lights? Checked charge rate and it is fluctuating between 14.5 and 15.7!!!!
2) how easy is it if it can be done is to code a new key as he only got one with the car.. it is the pre facelift model.
Thanks in advance, i will get him on this site once he buys himself a laptop.
Thanks

Thanks guys,
Tried different alternator but looking at bad earth is not a bad shout, might help him investigate this tomorrow, as for the key he will get one cut to suit and have to delve deep in his pocket to pay fords to code it...
Thanks guys

Regarding the Key, depends what type. I was told from my dealer once, that if you put it to the 'ignition' stage and leave it there for 60secs, (do not try and start it), it will get warm, then turn it off, take it out, and will be programed for the car.
Just a thought.

Do the lights flicker when the engine is not on? could be a poor wiring connection which making and breaking with the vibration of the engine?

Pre-facelifts can programme their own keys, follow the instructions in the handbook. Or you could write to the previous owner and ask if they still have it?
The flickering is an earth problem due to the impact, probably a damaged wire somewhere. You will have to follow the front end harness back to where you can see damage on the taping, remove the taping and see if you have a cut or crushed wire. Just make sure all the earth points are tight first though.

Thanks everyone for there help, not had a chance to investigate this further, the lights only flicker when car is running, just gos bright dims a bit and bright again very quickly!! I even noticd the heater is doing the same thing, on high speed it then slows down a bit and then speeds up.
As for the key i think a letter is worth a go but thinking about coding and also for the alarm!!! Still got ford alarm. Can thy be coded also to th key??
