Well after a random suggestion the bf, myself and a friend decided instead of traipsing Autosport or British Motorshow we would actually make a bit of a pilgrimage of it and go to Geneva Motorshow..you know.. "do it properly" as it were!
We flew out early-ish on Friday 5th, got to the hotel, dumped our bags and did a little bit of a walk about. We found this kick ass restaurant and had some really nice but HYPER expensive food there. When people say Swizterland is expensive they are not joking! After a very very early night we were up for a nice brekkie and to the show for just after it opened at 9am and we were there until 7pm!!
As we walked in there was one of my favourite bits.. There were trade stands for every single piece of garage equipment you could ever need. I have always said when I "win big" on the lottery I am fully kitting out a garage and this bit had every single thing I could possibly need. I nearly died happy! Anyway we got into the main arena and man alive this thing was huuuuuge! I would say it is easily 3-4 times bigger than British Motorshow if not a bit more.
Like I said we were there from 9am til 7pm and we managed to nearly miss out the Jaguar stand it was that big! A big thumbs down to the Jag people who put the XJ behind a roped off bit and locked all their cars.
Anyhoo there was every bit of exotica from Pagani, to Ferrari, Rolls Royce & Lamborghini, Aston Martin etc to the every day stuff from Peugoet, Citroen, Volvo, Ford, BMW & even Tata! There were tons of electric cars from almost every single manufacturer including Porsche and of course plenty of concept cars and world premiers.
So top cars of the day.. well I want to exclude things like Pagani & Lamborghini because thats almost cliche although they were very nice...
For me the top number 1 suprise car of the day was the Lotus Evora. It is just stunning inside and out. I disliked it completely when I first saw it but when I was up close and sat in one I was in love. It is small and you are cocooned with everything wrapped around you and focused to you but you arent clambering over whopping sills like the Elise & Exige (trust me I had to do that and embarassed myself infront of everyone lol)
Number 2 car of the day was the new Polo Gti. It is very grown up, looks solidly built and worth its money. It doesnt have a silly fancy OTT dash like the mk7 Fiesta with buttons every where.
Number 3 was for me the Golf R. Understated looks and plenty of power. It might be a bit heavy but on looks alone it won me over.
Number 4 was ther Renault Wind. I think this cute little car is going to be a hit in the same way the Puma, Tigra etc were. Cutsey little hairdresser type car.
BIGGEST biggest disappointment (I can hear certain people cheering already...) was the Renault Sport Megane 250. Its dash is terrible, awful, bland and more basic than the last which wasnt exactly plush! The wheel arches on it are stuck on not even moulded like .. well most other cars and the seats are horrid. I am sure its a capable car underneath all that nonsense but boy have they let that down by putting that disgrace of a shell on top.
Anyway my biggets personal disappointment had to be my camera's battery dying on me and even when I took pictures on my poor mobile phone camera that died too and I estimate I still missed out a good 1/3 of the show Oh well! Lesson learned sadly!
Now for a selected few pics!
Awesome Lake Geneva

Friday night we went car hunting & this was my fave.

The view of Geneva train station from our room!

Waterless wash. Hmmm dont think I'll try that thanks..

What would Jesus (or is that JLC?) drive? Ahhh yehhh

BMW Tron Edition

New 5 series.. Hmmm... I dont think so.. Too big now..

The new X1 in "poo brown" as my mate Rob described it

Best stand/display of the show. Even I managed to get half decenbt pictures!

I'd happily take that over a TT

The epically blinding (literally) Mansory Roller ...

CF G Wagon? Ok sir!

Really like these! Couldnt get in it though!

Plenty bonkers concepts

Citroen guy up for a laugh. He was draped over the bonnet with a leg up but changed to this when I got my camera out

Sex weeee

Again suprisingly sweet and cute in real life but again couldnt get in it

I dont think this is actually Performance Blue but "Winning Blue"... Its apparently to celebrate the success in Monaco but its just paint and stripes so nowt special

Hmmm...

Ugliest car there possibly..

Now we start on my mobile phone pics so kinda sorry for the quality!

Ugly..

Muchos pretty

Your choice of a V8 Porsche..

Or an electric!

WANT!

Veyron gearbox built & developed by the company the bf works for

So yeh thats only a very very few of my pics and I still missed loads when the batteries went!!! Well worth the trip though

Brilliant write up and pics Ayesha.
So how does the waterless wash work? it sounds like a real paint damager?
The 'Ugliest car their possibly' ... agreed, looks like an air-bag has gone off around the gear stick.
Really don't like the look of the Focus, looks like Ford have taken the rear lights from a Volvo designer; I know that they do this kind of thing.
What kind of performance spec was the Electric Porsche?

I'm not sure how it worked because we were walking past before they opened but I think its like some of these products you see on Teleshopping at 3am lol
Yeh I thought the rear of the Focus looked very Volvo like.
Not sure about the Electric Porsche because we were too busy asking about the V8 one lol but I thik its fairly powerful?
Oh and can I give a BIG boo to Jaguar who kept the XJ behind a roped off bit they only let a few into and all the cars locked

Cheers for the comments guys. I have actually found a shed load more pictures hiding in another folder on my phone browser which I thought I might post a few more.
Well I think its a nice looking car!

Cute as a button new Micra. Really sweet and nice

The "Parp" or the Renault Wind as its officially known!

And this was with the roof down. It all fits in the lid as it were leaving a massive boot space

Its a better rear end in a way but the stuck on arches (which you should be able to see in the pics) & cr*p interior spoilt it for me. Shame.

Brabus Merc. Yes please!

Yey! Tata! The level of shockingly cheap plastic on, around and in this car was astounding. Truly horrible.

Was rather fond of this Artega!

This was just the downstairs area.. The upstairs bit was as big!

Personally, I'm not a fan. I think it looks a little bit stupid, the front doesn't really seem to suit the car. Maybe I'm prejudice because of my immense hatred of the ones I see now, especially when driving around. They insist on doing 10 mph EVERYWHERE. Anyway, rant aside, some quality pictures there, wish I could go!

Duncan - I know what you mean but if you ignore the drivers of the cars and just look at the car itself it really is quite a cute little thing really. A proper little city car as it were. It was basic but functional inside but didnt look *too* cheap for the car it is.
Well they arent great because it was almost impossible to get near enough it to get a decent pic but here goes!
It kinda looks cross eyed...
